personal response (Chapter 11 to 17)
i empathise with Atticus the most. He has to contend with the crowd of Whites who has objections about him defending Tom Robinson, a Black in court. Furthermore, he has to contend with Mayella Ewell who kept saying that Atticus was mocking her and refused to speak up when Atticus questioned her. I empathise with Mayella the least. The author tries to describe Mayella as the victim and has suffered deeply and innocently. However, Mayella seems to be hesitating about providing answers relating to her father as though he had threatened her not to tell on him.
